I was invited by my Hall Director to join my Residence Hall Government! My roommate and I have the position of Co Social Program Coordinators. We basically just have to get people to go to programs and help promote awareness of things that are happening in our dorm. The government group meets once a week and our job is to make the hall a better place to live. We discuss any issues that have been brought to our attention so we can fix any problems to help our residents! It's been a really great experience so far and I love being part of such a great Leadership Team! :)
My dad got a job out in western ND/eastern Montana in the fall. He works for an Oil Field Water Services company. He drives a saltwater truck. When they pump up the oil on the rigs, saltwater comes up with the oil. They have to pump out that saltwater and drive it away to pump it back into the earth.
My dad was able to come home for a week at the beginning of February! So I went home for a weekend so I could spend time with him. Every time my dad walks through that door and I see the way my mom reacts, it makes me extremely thankful for how much they love each other!! It's been very difficult on my family to see my dad so far away, but my dad will do anything for my sisters, mom, and I. I've always admired that about him. As long as I can remember, he's told me: "it's easy from the cheap seats". For those of you who don't quite understand that quote, it means that it is soooo easy to complain about someone or something when you aren't the one that's actually doing it. (coaching is a perfect example... parents complain about the coaching all the time but do you see them devoting time to make the athletes better? NO.) So incredibly thankful my dad has taught me that because it makes you see life from a different perspective. Three things my dad has told me since day one: "Never quit, play hard, and it's easy from the cheap seats." I've been realizing more and more how important these things are as I grow up. Right now, he's 13 hours away from my mom and sisters refusing to quit, going hard (working 12/13 hour days), and doing something about financial trouble instead of sitting around complaining about it.
While my dad was home, he came into my room and woke me up. He asked if I'd be willing to move out to North Dakota after my sister Taylor graduates in May. Of course I would. It's my family. We are pretty used to moving all the time anyway ;-). I'm pretty excited to live there this summer, the starting pay at Walmart is like $18, just to give you an idea of how good the pay is for most jobs out there so I will hopefully be making decent money!
I'm not worried about moving this summer, I'm worried about what I'm going to do next fall. I'm currently in Point, which would be like 16 hours from home, give or take depending on where we officially end up in ND. I wouldn't be able to just go home for a weekend like I'm able to do now. I have applied to the University of North Dakota and have yet to hear back from them. Taylor applied to the same school and just recently go accepted! YAY! Before I found out we were moving, I also applied to the University of Iowa, just because it's my dream school and I went out on a limb and to say I did it.
I'll keep you guys up to date on where/if I'm accepted. I've developed many close relationships with so many people here. It's going to be an extremely difficult decision. Do I move to be closer to my family or do I stay in Point where I've already started school? Or do I just go the opposite way and attend my dream university? Whichever path I choose, I know everything will work out and it all happens for a reason. I've been given this life because I'm strong enough to live it. That's my life as I know it.
